I’ve been composing these days for solo guitar, which I’m not sure how or why because I don’t consider myself a composer. However, it’s been a blast and a totally involved and rewarding experience that I thought to share with you here.
1) Dance of the Jinn (2019): This is a short, fun piece that I composed recently while dabbling with musical figures in different time signatures, especially odd time signatures.
The title “Dance of the Jinn” came about due to the piece taking on its own course as I was composing it. I don’t consider myself a composer, but for some odd reason the piece was revealing itself to me, sort to speak, as I was exploring different musical ideas. I learnt a lot about the actual composing process, and so I won’t say this will be my only new composition (I’ve composed in the past, but nothing serious). “Dance of the Jinn” may well become part of a larger work for solo classical guitar.
The Jinn (or Genie in English) is a mythological Islamic figure/spirit that can be good or bad. I feel this piece is a battle between both: the evil one is represented as jumpy or edgy in the music, whereas the peaceful one is more serene and is represented by lush harmonies.
If you are interested in playing this piece, I’ve made the score available for purchase at my online store: http://tariqharb.storenvy.com/collections/252479-all-products/products/28758541-harb-dance-of-the-jinn-2019?fbclid=IwAR36th81gtRjxFkdvcLOmSdfHl2WCI3aex1HXIhvBjhg0KOJSfzgPU_UfZY
You can listen to it on my YouTube channel: https://youtu.be/N9dsRVi4qWg
I hope you enjoy it!
2) Midnight (2019): Here is a piece I composed for solo guitar titled “Midnight”, remembering the times at my grandfather’s home in Gaza. There was a Grandfather Clock that sounded on the hour, and sometimes at night, being quite loud, it used to wake me up, and I would stay up hearing the sounds in the streets of the city of Gaza and whatnot. I remember they had incredible mangos and the best fish from the Mediterranean Sea; it was amazing. Anyways, I hope you enjoy this piece of music! 🙂
I might actually include it in a larger work for guitar along with “Dance of the Jinn”, which I will record altogether in one video along with other movements, if that would happen. I will also include a score of the larger work in my online store. But for now, the score to this piece is available following this link: http://tariqharb.storenvy.com/collections/252479-all-products/products/28817998-harb-midnight-2019?fbclid=IwAR0rQoVYvAtEGQyghhVrpiplRg_v-kLScwFceyoSOBoG2Iu3dBKBpdfNqAM

I hope you enjoy these new compositions! Thanks for reading, and who knows, maybe I’ll compose more in the near or far future, or maybe not. We’ll see! 🙂
