Under the patronage of His Excellency Mr. Marwan Juma, the Minister of Information and Communications Technology (MoICT), the winners of the Jordan Web Awards (JWA) for the year 2009 were announced on Saturday February 20th, 2010, at the Grant Hyatt Amman Hotel at a ceremony attended by over 350 guests.
Organized by MediaScope, in cooperation with the Pan Arab Web Awards Academy, this is the fourth consecutive awards ceremony to take place in Jordan since 2006.
H.E. Marwan Juma stated, “A website is recognized across the board as an important and effective tool of knowledge and a means of communication, reflecting the common belief that internet marketing has become a booming industry around the world and especially in Jordan. The MoICT is committed to honoring and recognizing talents in web development with a focus on content development, which will ultimately increase Internet penetration and the use of computers across the Kingdom.”
As the only awards program to recognize the highest standards of excellence in website design and development, this year’s edition of the Jordan Web Awards received 148 entries, representing more than 40 different companies in Jordan. The awards covered 30 categories and were presented to 27 winners, including development companies, direct clients and individuals in addition to special and honorary awards.
Recognizing its stature and prestige, JWA attracted distinguished sponsors with Microsoft Internet Explorer 8 as the Platinum Sponsor, Jeeran as the Gold Sponsor, and the Silver Sponsors being Arab Orient Insurance Company, eWaseet, Al Ghad Newspaper and Bayt.com. Supporters of the Jordan Web Awards are the Ministry of ICT, int@j, Jordan Computer Society, Ayna, BSA and Microsoft.
The Jordan Web Awards is a member of the Pan Arab Web Awards Academy, led by Pierre Moukarzel, which oversees the organization of local web awards ceremonies across the region in several countries including Lebanon, Egypt, UAE, Qatar, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and Kuwait, which culminate in the regional competition, the Pan Arab Web Awards ceremony, held in Dubai.
